Ah! I didn't think "quiet" meant introverted or non-social. I thought it meant all the important announcements without a lot of extra stuff... for busy people, those who don't log on often, etc.
But it is true that in SL, that's usually one of the big differences between selecting to get group IMs, and only getting group notices. I had the Addicts IMs turned off at first, but friends told me that it was very informative, and it is. And I enjoy the community there.
On YahooGroups (yeah, I know - it's been around for almost 15 years), I own and moderate an announcements-only group for a specific type of events, and we have a sister group (owned by a friend) which is for those who like to chat. Most event and news announcements usually go to both groups, but discussion about them is on the other group. So I was thinking it was more like that.
