RE: Easter Cats
As a small time hobbiest breeder.. I can't afford to keep up. Ones I'd like to perma pet I can't because I can't afford it. I used to be able to sell a couple cats a week to suport my marginal population but I had to give my stall a couple months ago when the v-day cats came out. A cat I could sell to pay rent with a little extra.. could barely give away. If it goes like that again.. I'm gonna have to get out of breeding. Please, let the market and some of us small timers recover from 4 months of constant new collections.

I think it's a wonderful platform to state opinions and have a healthy discussion or debate even if your opinion varies from someone else's, I don't think that taking an opposite stance on a matter should call for forum censorship or dub this 'flame wars,' because it's truly far from it.
I find most of the discussions where people may disagree and debate on the KittyCats forum to be really helpful and I love learning new things from the perspectives you only get from breeders sharing ideas or debating here. Every person has a different tone (and viewpoint) when approaching a matter but I think this should be acknowledged and accepted without becoming any level of abrasive toward any individual posting here. I really hope this discussion doesn't get deleted and it stays up so others may open up and share their ideas freely. This is a huge issue in the secondary market right now as prices drop on some kitties while they continue to skyrocket on others, it'd be nice to debate on the pros and cons of the issue - even against one another whose eyes perceive this issue in other ways, such as a successful auctioneer versus a struggling seller versus a buyer who wants to be a Pokemon trainer and has a 'gotta catch 'em all' attitude with the excitement of new traits being released (LOL), etcetera.
Hugs!
Well said, Deery. You brighten up this discussion with the sunshine and flowers in a positive way to see thing. Thank you )

RE: Easter Cats
All -
Just to refocus the discussion here, we were voicing our thoughts and opinions on the effect of the release of massive numbers of collectors kitties (and with that, new traits) into the market. I'm not sure how this turned into a slander/snide remarks/dynamite lodging contest about the success of various auctions and sims; its really not related to this discussion.
If you feel you have something to add in regards to Liriel's original post, please do. Otherwise, please keep the bits about personal this that and the other out of this and in private PMs. I see that one person has already been censored in this discussion, which did not need to happen at all. The KC's community used to be very kind and accepting, its begun to dissolve into something else entirely over the past 4 months, and I am loathe to see it happen.
Thanks,
Nyn

RE: Easter Cats
No one requires that you spend all your lindens and all your real life money to have every single cat. If you cannot do it, don't. They release whatever they want, if you decide you want them, get them. If you cannot afford to dump IRL money into them, then get the cats you want later, when you sell off your cats. If you want to get them early, then spend your IRL money, get them, and sell them later. If you aren't trying to make money, then you shouldn't be worried about not being able to afford 50 new holiday babies. The sad part is, you could spend 50k lindens buying holiday cats, then sell them back for 100 lindens more, make a profit, do it again next special release, or convert your money back into IRL money.
I think its silly to complain that you cannot afford to buy ALLLLL the cats they release. What would be the point of having different cats, if everyone single person had access to every single cat? Some people only buy 1 or 2 special cats and are happy with that.
I see a lot of negativity from some breeders about people spending their IRL money on kittycats, and you have people like the OP saying they refuse to do it, and should be rewarded for not doing it. What? You get what you put into things. If you're not willing to spend real life money, then you obviously don't want what you're asking for badly enough.
---------
Now, about people saying that this hurts the community? What hurts the community is people bringing the lowest tier 9t cats and expecting people to buy them for extreme amounts. I'm sorry, but 9t doesn't really mean as much as it used to. I don't really like going to auctions anymore because I see the most boring cats. Again, not trying to offend anyone, but 1 year old furs aren't going to sell for more than 100-300 lindens generally, and 9t cats with curious everything isn't going to sell for much (TYPICALLY) either. Anyone now a days can buy 2 cats at auction, mash them together, and get a 9t cat. However, these days it matters more what the traits are. I'm not trying to insult anyone's hard work, but you need to get with the current state of the market if you're trying to do anything more than breed what YOU want. If you're complaining that you don't have money to buy things, maybe you should try actually making a line of cats that will sell, or invest in some higher priced cats, breed them out, and make a profit. Again, if you're just here to have fun, great, don't complain then, that you have no money, that isn't anyone's fault but your own.
TL;DR:
1. Special release cats aren't designed for everyone to be able to afford, don't try to if you cannot. This is not Pokémon, you do not need to catch'em all.
2. Step-up your KittyCatS skillz, invest or breed better cats, get money, ????, profit!

Care to tell me exactly where you read that I wasn't putting RL money into cats? I made an observation and asked if others agreed or disagreed. I didn't ask for insults or outright misrepresentations of what I posted.

Feel free to re-read your post. You flat stated that the reason 9t cats weren't selling was they are inferior cats and that those of us thinking this is way too much way too fast somehow lack breeding skills. You don't know anything of me or my breeding skills. I have no object to disagreeing, just leave the insults and snide innuendos out.

I didn't flat out say you, stop being so sensitive. The only time I mentioned you (you're the OP) was about not wanting to invest tons of IRL money, which you said you don't want to. I disagreed. My comments about 9t cats are from another poster's reply, I'm sorry, not everything revolves around YOU. (Yes I was referring to you that time ^___^)

A Couple points to this post. (03-19-2012 08:39 PM)Ethereal Hurricane Wrote: If you aren't trying to make money, then you shouldn't be worried about not being able to afford 50 new holiday babies. this right here is what floods the market, and depresses prices in the long run. which is one of the points the op was trying to make,

if you put rare traits or unique traits in to one or a small few new releases people will continue to try to get those traits which again floods the market with more cats that dont have those traits and people turn there focus away from the cats, because if its not the newest trait its not worth anything...
all of this is what others have said time and time again on this post, but i thought i would just add my 2 cents again..
