RE: Please Be Carefull !!
BUMPS !!
**I do wish people would learn their stuff and get some experience before chiming in with advice to new breeders.
With the 2,000 or so influx of new KittyAddicts in the last couple of months, misinformation tends to spread like wildfire, therefore unintentional false claims on boxes = more people will be buying kitties that have no chance of producing the traits that they think they are buying.
The people who succeed in the markets are those who have a good and solid reputation.
And remember, a bad reputation is more easily made than a good one.
Lets try keep our markets as top-notch as the product that we're selling.

RE: Please Be Carefull !!
I have also seen not only traits marked weird, but also the number of traits. I have seen some marked 10 when that's incorrect as well as people marking them 8 or 9 when they are not. I usually try and Im the owner when I see this and send them the NC on breeding I have. It's always good to try and help rather than just say they are doing it wrong because they may be under the idea they are doing it right based on inaccurate info being passed on. But I ams till new to KC as well so I guess I really don't have much of a say.

RE: Please Be Carefull !!
Yes. This needed to be bumped.
Charm was commenting earlier today about some of the issues she saw at one market. Here's the two which stuck in my mind:
* Perma-pet cannot breed, yet one was being sold at a "love table" as hot to trot and ready to go. Come on, people! Yeah, the market owner should insist the cat be picked up, or return it, but, seriously, a Perma-pet on the "Love Table"?
* "I hide Tapestry Harvest and Jade" .. um .. no you don't. You can NEVER hide TWO of anything. Yes, Dad was Genesis hiding Harvest, and Mom was Jade, but you're Genesis so there is NO WAY you got Harvest (you hide Jade or better).

RE: Please Be Carefull !!
Okay, here's my bump, not only for the new breeders, but for everybody. Kittycats is very well known for their good customer support and dedication on putting quality kitties for everybody. Here's my two cents on this thread:
Instead of bashing new breeders on this forum, why don't we lend a hand? You have to remember, everybody started as a new breeder so put yourself in their shoes. You struggled to put your kitties together, selling your best kitties out there. Everybody wants Kittycats community to be better, but ask this to yourself, how do I make it better? Okay, you see someone is selling wrong information about the kitty. Contact them, advise them, guide them. Be a mentor. They will not know it unless someone tells them. If they get mad at you, you have said your peace and walk away. You have washed your hands and move on. It will not be a better community if you sit there and do nothing except bumping this thread, which by the way, it's not helping either. You are not encouraging people to ask questions and continue the path they are in. Never forget where you came from. If you do, you have not learned at all.

RE: Please Be Carefull !!
I got into kittycats almost a year ago. I've started out just as having a few as pets and that escalated into having many as pets. I went a bit overboard and am now actually having to sale many of them because my husband and I just don't have the room. I didn't know much about them besides that they were cute and sweet and I loved to interact with them. I even started where I buy older cats, turn them into perma pets, and give them away as gifts to friends. I have gotten many friends hooked on these lovable furballs that way.
It has been a very slow learning process for me. I've just barely opened up a small cart of my own cats about a week ago. I charge according to how many traits I count and I make sure it is accurate to the best of my knowledge. My biggest issue is I'm shy and this is just a small hobby I want to have fun with. I haven't pinpointed any particular combination of traits I want to work with. I have three favorite breeds and those are what I breed and sale. Simple as that.
I'm still very unsure about myself when it comes to breeding and selling kittycats. I've read everything in this forum and all the note cards I've been passed over the past months comparing and trying to learn as much as I can. I finally just jumped in and got my feet wet because the only way I'm going to learn the rest is by actually doing it and I know that. Before I was just so scared to even try because I didn't want to botch things up. Here is my point...in order to learn we must actually take action, we must make mistakes, and we must learn from them as we go along. Of course it is important to do homework and read to get an idea of what the whole concept of kittycats is, but until actual action is taken than what is read is just speculation we have to mull over in our brains.
I've always found that actual experience is what makes the best teacher. We all have to begin somewhere and sometimes we are bound to make mistakes. It takes time to build experience and actual knowledge from doing. It takes time to build a name from something that began as nothing. In the process kindness, help, and understanding is what can push new comers in the right direction.
I can understand the frustrations, but I can also understand we all begin with nothing in which we make something. It is a learning process.
I have to agree with Crepe Myrtle. Everything she expressed was well said.

RE: Please Be Carefull !!
No one is "bashing" new breeders here. Read more carefully
If one looks at the OP it's 2 years old.
At the time many of us were noticing that false claims were being made by some sellers, mostly through inexperience, but a very few knew exactly what they were doing. So obviously we IMed the sellers to point out that their info was false and still do.
As you can see (if you take the trouble to read through the thread correctly) quite a few of the older breeders were offering their help in order to avoid some inexperienced people making some often costly mistakes. Some of these false claims were priced at 30K and more.
Many of us have guided a lot of new breeders through their first steps since then, helped them make the best choices in starting off their cattery etc.
This is (well used to be anyhow) what the KC community was all about, trying to nip erroneous infos and ideas in the bud, keep things on an even keel and help out anybody who was floundering, but many have given it up now as a lost cause.
Bumping this thread occasionally is just part of the help we can give, and we do so as there are many useful contributions i it.
*and BTW not all of the offenders are by any means new breeders.
