Hi all, I think I found the solution to making the edges transparent. Its similar to Kay's template but I've nailed it down to the pixel in question. On the given template of 1024 by 64, find the center pixels between 511 to 513 length-wise and 31 to 33 height-wise. Keep these 4 pixels transparent at all times and you will have a transparent edge.
I was fiddling with the cylinder prim and how it tiles an image, a texture tiled at 0.00 means the very exact center is being spread out, so if that very center is transparent, the entire face will be transparent as well at 0.00 repeats - hollowed out or not. You CAN test this correctly on the collar creator tester kit provided; ignore the instruction to just texture the outer surface - just select the entire collar and texture it.
Of course on close up, the collar will have a tiny transparent dot in the center of the collar, but for the aesthetics of a transparent edge, that little dot is negligible imho and its barely noticeable at a distance.
That said, I have 6 collars (3 for male cats 3 for female cats) which I'm giving away at my shop cos I don't want to sell something that I'm dissatisfied with - yes these were the dudders I was working on and they had this pale beige edge.
You can pick them up here at L$0
