I don't really see the need to have removed it, 99.9% were nice comments and the very few exceptions weren't entirely undeserved either, those that i saw anyhow.
Only other abuse i saw was a few instances more recently of people massively up-rating, probably themselves by an alt but that was very obvious to the reader and harmless.
Anyhow, whats done is done, i feel it's a minus for the forum though.
I agree the positive rating part was very nice in fact and often used by older users indeed.
It is always nice to read a positive rating it is like a little surprise and a gesture of appreciation and to give a positive rating was also fun and had a nice memory and a little history on it's own: thinking back to certain things and memories of moments we collected on which we commented.
So yes this is a bit like kill a mosquito with a bazooka.
It was definately useful as well to support a good idea etc.
We could give a positive to a certain post one did or a general postive and if we made use of the first option a link was created to that post so I think it is a pitty it is taken away all together for quick reference and memories.
I agree though the negative and perhaps the neutral rating part can be taken away because if people do nasty things with that and I have seen that happening as well that is not sound I feel.
So in that aspect I agree with the OP and Deer who also made a post about this.
