Otherwise the Lapis would be totally gorgeous, and when you mention semi precious stones i immediately thought of opals which could be a fabulous range to explore.

Yes, what I pictured was glossy onyx eyes with highlights and all, like a polished Onyx, and a mat a touch darker black pupil for the contrast.
