If you use the auto feeder that you can buy at the Main Store, it sends you a reminder when need to add food to it. It allows you to set a reminder to will to go IM, Email, or Text (what hovers over the server) - and you set when it reminds you - which can be as low as one left in the container. To me it is worth giving up 2 prims for the system.
