Seriously though, I was thinking about this myself..... I went out cat shopping, and I have to admit, I was a bit surprised. A lot of the cats out there are priced real high. I saw a cat for 40K! 200 RL dollars! That's RL rent, food for a week, car payment IRL, etc... Although I do love these cats, and think the world of them, at the end of the day, they are a digital cat. And there is no way I can justify spending 200 RL dollars on a digital cat.
With that said, there are so many stunning cats. And some people really love, adore the LE costume cats... The issue is, the LE costume cats, as well as some other cats out there, are out of reach for the normal Second Life user. Especially if you are a big Megapuss fan like I am.... It is not rare to see LE megapuss going for 20K, 30K, most go for about 15K.... Now, lets think about this.... 15K, we'll take the smaller of all the numbers. This is about 60 real life dollars. Now, think about that for a minute.... 60 real life dollars. Lets be generous, and say that the typical second life user makes 20 dollars an hour after taxes IRL... A person would have to work, in real life, 3 full hours just to afford the cat.... That is insanity. And that's the low end of the LE megapuss. Again, at the end of the day, they are digital cats... Spending 3 full hours of work on a digital cat is insanity. And this is generous. The average SL user probably makes more along the lines of 15 dollars an hour. Some less....
I also know many are disabled. A megapuss LE for a disabled person is half their earnings for the month... LOL Seriously, the price on cats are crazy...
I went to a sim and saw a pink chateu for 6 grand.... What is 6 grand? That is about 24 RL dollars! 24 RL dollars on a digital cat! 2 hours of RL work for the average SL user... Maybe an hour and a half. That's crazy talk.... On top of all the other SL needs, IE, avatar accessories, land, etc...
In reality, and this is very sad, the KittyCats market is really only for breeders to get cats to breed.... People do not buy many cats, cause quite frankly, the cats are just over priced for many. Now, if you enjoy the normal sized kitties the most, then you are probably good... But, for someone like me, who loves Megapuss, it really is out of my reach. I adore LE cats, however, LE cats are out of my grasp, due to the high cost of them as discussed above. People would buy more cats, if the price of them were not so tremendous. But reality is, for many, and I am included in that, the cats we want are just simply out of reach.
