Yes, I think you are right.
Owning and moderating spam groups these days seems a full time job with so many people
I wouldn't like to trade places with the moderators and police people 24/7 who should know better and are likely adults.

I really agree that the spam has become pointless. I do still enjoy seeing some notices about auctions and bidboards, and Kendrah, that's awful what's been happening to you..it's shamefull to use someone else's market name to mislead people and I wasn't even aware that was happening.
The bots I ejected from my group three days ago are still somehow endlessly spamming I Can Haz Kitteh? so it looks like I will need to contact LL Support for help.
I'm working on something in-world that may be another option to get to know what is out there and who is breeding what. I'll make a new post when I have things in order and see if there's enough interest to do it.
In the meantime, I don't blame anyone in my group for shutting everything off lol. I have not as I need to keep track of what's going on and I must say...it's DRIVING ME NUTS!!! For those that would like to say in my group, I'll try to remedy things ASAP, but there's no hard feelings at all if you drop it.
HuGz,

After 2 years of everyone getting thoroughly fed up with hit and run spammers what i eventually did in the KCSG group was to create a new role and migrate all members to it. I activated chat and notice rights for this role and disactivated these rights for the everyone role, which is the default role when joining. I have to go through the list from time to time to activate new members but in fact, even with 400 or so now, this only takes about 10 minutes.
So this could be a way of shutting up those bots Noc and a good way of controlling the overzealous spammers .

RE: SPAM
What really needs to be done is have one group for everything marketplace related instead of the dozens or so that are out there and set it so merchants can only send their messages once every few hours or once/twice a day and how often to wait inbetween postings to eliminate one post smothering another. Group chat should also be regulated to non ads. That's what I'd do anyhow(I've managed a few groups in my day).
Op found the solution to what they were asking about - we're all just sharing ideas on how to control spam at this point(which is good for other groups knowledge).

It seems to work very well especially when you have an idea of what you want but the seller doesn't always name their box beyond "new born kitten" so it can be tricky to find that perfect kitty outside of posting on the wanted forum.
Just my two cents
*sneaks back into the shadows*
I'm sure that if the Fennux team managed to get the online market together then KCR can do it in his sleep although i have no idea how much server space this would use, i'm sure he could come up with something light if necessary.
Although this would be a very useful resource indeed i'm not sure it would'nt produce the same deserted market situation as with Fennux.
On the other hand the KC market sims are so much prettier and many people take so much pride in their displays so i'm sure many would still want to foot it through even if we did have an online. (not the fault of the fennux sellers of course, i mean how can one present radio-active elephant turds in an attractive manner )

If you stick flowers in them and present them as a new floral decoration? A new kind of pet rock?
I like and hate spam at the same time. Occasional spam is a good way to find something I might be looking for faster than wandering around looking. And it does help get the word out when you have a special or like me a random raffle.
But when I see the same spams over and over again I won't do business with that person. I find it too annoying and don't want to encourage them to keep doing it.
I have sent a number of notices out when a raffle is almost over because I have had ppl show up in those last hours after I spam it. And have had a few that told me they almost missed it.
But the same people spamming all day gets old and I hate that i have to shut off the spams to avoid them. Some spams I enjoy getting. I like to go to new places and check out different ppls shops that I would miss without the spam.

RE: SPAM
When I auctioned I spammed ALL the cats in my auctions once an hour starting the night before with revolving write ups Panels 2,4,6,8,10,12 would be on the even hours and panels 1,3,5,7,9,11 would be on the odd hours. As well as a post in the forums where I listed every cat. I also posted on G+, Twitter, Flickr and Facebook. I also encouraged people to advertise on their own including all those locations I used, but most people don't advertise their own kittehs and I felt it was my responsibility to advertise them to the best of my ability. I also used a subscriber which people could click and get a single notice at the very start of the auction.
For my own personal advertisements I tend to do my auction kittehs every 1-3 hours closer together as the auction approaches. Store advertisement every 3 - 6 hours more often when I have just put out new stock, this is the same for my collars.
There are WAY to many advertisement groups out there and they seem to crop up daily but you never know who is in each one or who might have notices/chats turned on or off in which groups. So it helps to advertise in more than one location.

Google docs?
People are using them to sell their Rare Arcade items - so why can't we use them for our kitties?
Just a thought.....feel free to shoot me down if it's a crappy idea :-)

Any idea that gets the word out about your kitties and locations aren't bad ideas.
People use blogs, forums, and groups.
I always loved Nocs group because it wasn't non stop spam mostly the same ole stuff by the same people. Hers is the one group I didn't turn notices off.
Back before it was a none stop spam fest, I used to look through notices to see what was out there.
Two notices a day should be enough. But it's nice to have a group that you don't get spammed so bad you have to shut off notices. And it would be nice to be in a group that you know others will get your notices because they didn't feel the need to shut them off.

Good idea actually... back in my bunny days shops would use Google Docs to list their entire seller inventorys and if someone saw something they'd like they'd buy. Of course I feel if group notices are limited to once or twice a day that'd cut down on the spam severely. These generalized breedable advertisement groups out there that have no set rules often overpost each other so no one sees what was just posted causing frustration and folks wanting to leave. The bottom line is 2 things need to happen so this doesn't get out of hand:
1. One group needs to be made for advertising so there isn't a million advert groups with the same people in them.
2. Need to have rules set in place so overposting and spamming is limited(Two post max per day on notices/group chat?)
3. The created group needs to be moderated to make sure folks are following said rules. Rules are no good if no one's going to enforce them.
