RE: Breeders Tips Tricks and Advice
Leaving mom without a mate is exactly the intention.

Which brings to mind a big one:

Don't get too wrapped up in making sure every cat has a mate.

Don't get too wrapped up in trying to get every possible box.

It's better to have a plan, and work the plan.

A kitten is ready at two weeks, basically -- so mom and dad have another week to pop another box for you, then dad and daughter start re-gaining/gaining love at the same time. Of course that leaves mom without a mate Wink

hmm yes you are right and I would sure have no patience and buy the pet food recovery vitamin.
I think on second thought I just leave my kitties eating LOL

You're missing the point, which is that doing anything to a kitten (pet mode, starve them) in an attempt to save money is fruitless, because it won't work out as you wish due to the recovery period.

RE: Breeders Tips Tricks and Advice
There is always a solution to the moms plight. Share with friends. If you have a kitty that is rdy to make a box and no mate. Ask some of your friends if they would like to use that kitty or if they have a kitty you can use. Heart
You don't have to give the other person your kitty or take theirs. You can set up a play date. It just takes both of you to be there to set the partners. One to set the other to give the ok.
One word of advise...Make sure you both agree on any terms before the partnering if it's someone you don't know well or even with a good friend. If it ends up being a multimillion linden kitty that you will split lindens or share breedings. Smile

Outstanding idea, especially with the advice you added. I do this quite often with friends, as I'm constantly out of balance as cats retire or fail to produce what I want, LOL.

RE: Breeders Tips Tricks and Advice
I believe strongly in sharing and building a network of trust with friends because we can't own and breed it all.
And most of all I love to make people happy with that trait or cat they so desire knowing they would not abuse my trust and visa versa.

No, I didn't miss the point. As I said .. I was afraid I was missing something.

What I meant was that mom, once she'd produced a daughter was done. Sure, I could sell her or trade her, or use her in another project. But, most likely, once she's done her job and her daughter is ready to take up the reigns, it's off to kitty heaven for her. The idea, which, you're right, won't work was simply to save a little coin while her daughter is coming of age.

RE: Breeders Tips Tricks and Advice
Interesting idea....I'd probably end up finding a different partner for mum rather than sending her to kitty heaven because that's just me. But come to think of it, I actually have a few pairs like that already, done more thinking of traits than L$. Maybe mum can also go to inventory or retire without going to kitty heaven.

RE: Breeders Tips Tricks and Advice
I have thought of this tendency ...
I see a lot of kitties which are very recessive if they are not shown recessive their hidden is.
This perhaps has to do with the fact so many bali's and such are released.
The last couple of days I browsed the markets looking for a well traited strong dominant kitty with nice traits to use with my new starter kitty which hides the Bengal Tawny.
So far I figured out the Bengal Tawny is likely more dominant than the Black Russian but I also saw it can hide behind a Cream Tabby.
So the Bengal Tawny is fairly dominant.
I bought the starter which hides this Bengal Tawny so I look for a preferably 9 traiter kitty with pure flair shade to use with this Bengal to make pure Bengals in the future.
The funny part is it is so hard to find a pure dominant and well traited kitty on the market and my most dominant kitty which has pure traits is a Black Russian.
All in all I think keeping dominant lines strong and preferable pure seems needed after this recessive hype Smile
Keeping mid range or dominant kitties pure as a nice point of reference is my tip lol.

P.S. *wink* *wink* all help is welcome in my search for the right kitty especially pure flair is a must have in this case :-)
