As a long time KittyCats breeder, we have always had some sort of profiler/pedigree reader about. We had some cute ones back in the day (said in my best Granny voice). The Genie lamp for one; I still have some really cute ones made by Kiki (Micaela Lemondrop). So as far as being old school we have always used some sort of profiler (pedigree reader) to make auctions and sales easier, I remember having to supply my own at auctions I participated in. The only limitation to this was you could only see the parents and Grandparents (This was before the following options were available: Allow browsing of all previous generations from In World Pedigree links, and Automatically enable In World Pedigree links for all my new cats & boxes...heck back in those days we had to birth the box to even find out the sex lol).

So, this is where the current profilers come in handy. Even though they go back only one more generation, it still allows the opportunity to see a few more of the possible hidden traits (we know they can hide for generations). And I find them a great tool to show new breeders in my audience the how's and why's that allow a trait to pass.

As far as who to use...well...as with many of you I started with RM's Profilers. I personally never had issue with Rene, he never harassed, stalked, nor was he rude to me. However, I know many that have had this happen. After an instance of Rene intruding on a breeder on her personal land (I believe it was Judysl) and was very demanding that she NOT use the Torgon's profilers in her store; it was a very wtf moment for myself and Kiki. It was at that point that we decided to switch profilers and not use the RM version at CatTales. We don't prevent anyone else from using them, but for myself (and I believe I can speak for Kiki here as well) Rene's version was just not a good fit for us personally any longer.

Torgon's are updated regularly, their customer support is stellar and any questions I have had have been answered almost immediately. The updates are simple and quick and supplied at no additional cost to the user.

I believe what we are experiencing with Rene happened when he provided profilers for the Fennux, and of course a new profiler made by another creator was introduced. So unfortunately this is not the first time these types of things have happened. Apparently he did not learn from that experience; so chances are he will not learn from this one either. The only thing we can do is to keep each other updated, like we are here, and provide information to new people in our community.

Oh gosh Mirsoul, I remember those days of having to unpack the kitty to know what sex it was! I'm pretty sure the repackers were not around then either which drove me bonkers as most times, the cat's sex was not the one I needed hehe

He did create a bad situation with the breedable you name, although what is interesting with them is that they actually had their own totally free to use web market before any profilers. So his profiler came after the actual official web market. Yet apparently everyone copies him!! Not the case ^.^

LOL yeah...unpacking back then was frustrating, especially as you stated if that kitty was not the gender you wanted/needed. There was no online cattery, no menagerie, no re-packers, no in-world pedigree...how did we survive? LOL

Torgon's profilers are a great addition to our community, and we are very happy to support the creator.

You young whipper-snappers don't have any idea what it was like to walk to the Kitty market and back home, barefoot, in the snow, uphill both ways, just to sell a male Red Tabby and buy the female you wanted because Red Tabby was all the rage, people were complaining they couldn't get them from their Bengal Sorell, dressed in your latest flexi-hair, wearing clothes that looked spray-painted on, and, good gods, did I mention the BARE FEET! OMG they were ugly, but not as ugly as those terrible sculptie shoes which had to be about size 40 to cover those awful feet and made you look like Sasquatch in a painted-on tuxedo. Hey, wait a minute! I still have an ALT which looks like that! No, I won't log him in, it makes my eyes ache just thinking about what he must look like.

I feel you. The time lost was part of my original upset when I first started this thread. The TIME I lost placing all those profilers (hundreds), removing them. and then moving all my cat boxes around to accommodate the open spaces on the wall. The time lost matters to me more than the money that was lost.

I agree, I don't like bullies or ultimatums.

I don't intend to give up breeding either. I enjoy it too much. But I do have way too many cats, and projects going so this was another wake up call to evaluate that.

Kitten, thank you for keeping this a safe place to process the effect this back story regarding the profilers has had on us individually and as a community. I can say this thread has enforced my commitment to breeding and to the KittyCatS community. It is sad there will always be people who seem to need to hurt others, but the supportive and constructive discussion here has been healing and is really helping to pull the community together over this.

Lol! Yes, I remember those days all to well. I am relatively new to breeding KittyCats, but not new to SL. Wish I had a time machine and could go back and by multiples of those first year collector cats, I wouldn't have to stress about selling my cats to feed my addiction to them

Remember searching for hours and hours for the perfect kitty? Trying to find the perfect eye, the tail, ears and whiskers on ONE cat? Love Areas; walk around, click on the pedigree readers, wondering what else could be behind the grandparents. It was all a crap shoot in that area, you just had to hope that what was shown on the parents and grandparents was what would pop out. But of course our traits then were not what they are now. So many good times in KittyCats

"Old School" was fun times, and I enjoyed them immensely; but I love the updates, the profilers, and don't even get me started on those re-packers (love 'em)!! KittyCats has a wonderful community, and we need to keep it that way, so breed what you love, support the creators that help to keep our community positive and carry on <3 <3
