RE: Pedigree Suggestion
I personally don't care what is seen on the kitty. I do know some seem to have issues with owner, kitty name, menagerie aspect of it. I can see both sides and like I said I personally could go either way. If it gets to actually doing it, maybe post a poll and ask the question with answers yes, no, and optional. My 2 cent thoughts, I would just like the access traits, furs, and gender.

This is a one prim sign which displays the traits of the Roo and is clickable by a customer which allows the customer to see the Roo's tree way back.
This is a 3rd party gadget that works for Meeroos because Meeroo-pedigrees have public access. -And that is basically what I look for in KittyCatS - public access to pedigree for all cats, so that 3rd party creators could make nice stuff like this
It seems that most disagree with my idea of removing names from the pedigree, though. I am a bit sorry about that, as owner-names on all cats in my view goes against public access - as it can create ALL kinds of weird privacy-issues that in my view is far worse than the idea that someone may claim that one of their cats' ancestors is bred by this-or-that breeder.
-What would that matter anyway? If we can see the ENTIRE pedigree for the cat, we can easily see if it's a good cat or not - and then it doesn't matter who bred it. A nice cat is a nice cat no matter who owns it.

RE: Pedigree Suggestion
To me, the issue of removing names from the Pedigree pages is akin to the issue surrounding removing viewer-ID from Second Life viewers. While the concept was good, it turned out to lead to bad feelings and even griefing. While I don't think the problem would be nearly so bad for KittyCatS, I've seen some comments over the past months which make be believe the potential is there, and probably actually did occur occasionally. To me, even if most of us never see any griefing due to the names being shown on the Pedigree, the potential is there.
That said, at present, this is really only a problem between buyer and seller. It's not an issue for the Pedigree-view script (whether as a separate prim, as it is now, or included in the cat/box itself) .. if you're where you an see the cat, you already know the owner. That distinction definitely reduces the potential for bad effects.

RE: Pedigree Suggestion
I personally would like my "privacy" since I am a very private person, but yet I would like to see "more" of what is shown in the pedigrees (as in go back for a total of 4-5 generations). I am in the grey area really for this discussion. I don't have really awesome cats that I have breed over generations. I have gotten lucky with 1 or 2 generations.
Now, if you put in other forms of debates(now mind you this was YEARS AGO). I was one that got totally upset that my "key" was being shown to everyone. Why they couldn't keep it listed as UUID I have no clue.. Key to me means something that unlocks and when they first put that out I was pulling my hair and teeth cause now anyone could "unlock" me.
Only thing I see is that for newcomers, the wording should not scare anyone if they have privacy issues and feel that their privacy may be infringed upon by being shown from a database. Everyone has different views and opinions. The best way is for the KC team to do their best to discuss and find out what they feel would be best for current customers and for future ones.
and no I have no clue what I just said but I am falling asleep so I hope this makes sense to someone. If I made myself look like whatever, so be it lol

RE: Pedigree Suggestion
Makes good sense and I'm sure the team will think about it.
FYI, to a programmer "key", in this context, means that in a database, we use a "key" to find a record or list of records (say all the cats you own). Other terms you'll see are "index", usually meant in context of an array (a list), within a program. Or a "handle", meaning something which points to something else. They all mean the same thing: how we find things.

RE: Pedigree Suggestion
I'd love to be able to go back all the way through a kittehs pedigree but I have seen people buying a cat for cheap and then trying to turn around and sell it to make more money. I remember one quite well the day before someone bought a cat for 6K and the next day had it in another auction with a starting bid of 30K.
I don't allow reselling in my auctions until you have at least bred it once yourself.

Yeah, I figured that out after awhile but at the time I had no clue. Lol.. I've been here for 7 years and I still have to sit and think when someone says "script". I work in a pharmacy, I have relatives that act, so script can mean about three different things to me. lol

Dunno if those are all that different. They're just instructions to be carried out.

RE: Pedigree Suggestion
I had started a thread similar to this wanting this very thing Saga! It would allow us more precision in applying the hidden/recessive traits. By the time you go back 4 or 5 generations, that's a lot of hidden stuff! And yes, some place to write notes in your pedigrees on your kitties would be wonderful too, while we are asking for things!
I don't really have an opinion on the privacy issue - the cats I breed all have a tag. it was pointed out to me earlier though that some people may not want to reveal their 'recipe' for 'making' great cats.. while I understood the reason behind the comment, I cant say that I agree with it. I am fairly new to KittyCatS so I'm sure others have experienced things that I have yet to experience. I've even looked at software for real kitties and genome databases but we have so many variable traits that it would be difficult to use. And yes, the idea of a cold rainy night spent poring over the pedigrees of kitties and planning your 'dream kitty' sounds like heaven to me
I'd simply like to be able to make more considered choices when pairing my kitties
I'd also love to be able to see what my kitties go on and do! I vote for the extended pedigree!

RE: Pedigree Suggestion
I so wish to be able to see the whole pedigree for any cat by just clicking it so I AGREE.
Hiding owner's name have some disadvantages for this wish as some mentioned but everything has disadvantages that we should bear
