I think last week I hear over a dozen times ...you'll never sell your cats they aren't popular they aren't NEW and especially at 100 a trait... you need to breed the popular ones...really really getting sick of hearing it.
I breed cats and I breed what I like and if they sell they don't if they do they do. I don't think my cats are high priced nor would I say I under price them. A good many of my cats are made with much thought put behind how I want them to turn out many times they don't but that's okay too..not all of us are in this to sell the high end cats. I really don't care if I loose money at it to be perfectly honest with everyone.
My only response to them was the new will be old again soon too...

Always breed what you love
There are those that breed strictly for the high end traits, making that perfect 9T. But who is to say what is perfect? Any 9T kitty has some work behind it, and should be recognized for that. I have purchased a few 9T (and even lesser traited) kitties because they had something I liked/wanted. So don't worry about what anyone else says 
Have fun! There will always be someone looking for nicely traited "older breeds". Heck I just bought a Cream Tabby at auction because it reminded me of my first creams...lol. Hang in there dear!

Heck yes I do Mirsoul and my store and my inventory are packed with the so called perfects with nice newer traits and eyes etc...thanks for thoughtful words...sometimes a gal just has to vent lol

I agree with you Skippy very much so, high end is só 2011, I want to see the oldtimers back!
I see some people breed the older furs with newer traits.
The Moo kitty for example totally strikes back
I just love that a year ago nobody would care for the Moo kitty they were lonely on the love shack.
Yesterday I bought this fantastic Moo kitty on an auction with new traits added.
It is nice how the market is changing back to old combined with new.
I hope more community members go retro

**raises hand** me too, I love the mookitty, but my siamese still are my little babies. Personally I'm not fond of the bali craze that is sweeping the market. I do have a few but I'm using the little brats for the white russians I have. With the gap in the dominance order I figure it will give me a good breeding program.

I got to breeding when the moo kitty had been retired and many other breeds (especially the various colours of tux chateau) were seemingly forgotten. They're still new to me. I love the chateau grey& white No2, the red and white tabby, the aby lilac (and all abys I'd say), the cream and cream and white tabbies, black and white russians, cream and white chateau, siamese chocolate and some of the most recessive and new ones too, like the bengal tawny and the flame lynx. Pink and white with pink eyes seems a lovely combination -which also makes me wonder why if they're not new we still don't have a clearer idea of where the tux kitties fall in the dominance order, while we do with the various balis (wonder..... "pissed"....poteito...potato...).
I don't sell my kitties for now so I really breed what I want and can. I like to have 9T potential kitties and I'm heading in that direction (trying to anyway), but I don't want just any trait to fill a slot. Also, Mysterious eyes with big pupils seem really pretty to me, especially in the lighter colours, and shades don't always make my kitties prettier. It depends on a lot of things.
100L a trait seems fair to me, with an added cost for rare traits. I wish we could pin down that "added cost for rare traits" to something more concrete. Recently I've begun to think that some rare traits can also become rarer if people hold them....(yes I'm really bad when it comes to market conditions and naive when it comes to people). I can't say that's good or bad, only how I feel about it and it's not pleased. So I've become more choosy.
I also like kitties I can play with -kitties that hold mysteries, or have few traits but those traits that I love....
Not everyone breeds for high end kitties, or certainly not all the time.
Maybe we're less conspicuous, but we're out there

It's not always a matter of just breeding high end kitties. It can also be a matter of size of cattery and breeding plans.
I used to breed all different furs from up and down the chart, but to keep my cattery small had to focus on a smaller group of furs.
To be honest I have been breeding a long time and it's always nice to have something different to work with.
Those older kitties for some are new, for others have been around a while and have seen over breeding for a time.
I know siam lilac was a fave for a lot of ppl, (I'm sure it still is) but I just got tired of seeing them all over.
Being more recessive doesn't make a high end kitty. Demand and rarity makes it high end.
You can have a new kitty with new fur or traits, but if ppl don't want it or don't want to pay higher prices for it, it becomes a low end kitty, market wise.
Up until the the menagerie kitties I had most the older furs in boxes and had no need to buy them. I think this too had an effect on the market and popularity.
All I"m trying to say is that to us all our kitties are priceless no matter how old or new they are, and we shouldn't judge them by the market. Not everyone has the same tastes. Not everyone have the same breeding plans.
The market is fickle it always has been.
You know the work and time you put into your kitties. Don't let anything else take away from that.
Just keep watching them roll around in all their cuteness as they stick their lil tongues out at you after giving you yet another all gen box. ugh! EVIL KITTIES! rofl

I am still so new at breeding that all the furs are new to me. However, I have a soft spot for what I would call RARE furs, by RARE I mean that in my short time breeding I have rarely ever seen them for sale. The most striking example so far for me was when a kitty randomly threw me an Aby Blue fur and I realized I didn't think I had ever even seen it before! Of course its not the most recessive fur, but its not the most dominant either. I am working towards doing exactly what was discussed before, mixing newer and more recessive traits with older/more dominant traits. On my Aby Blue's I'm trying to get Jade eyes to go with their gorgeous fur, Strawberry Bellini eyes for my Tawny and Whites, and Ody Sorbet eyes for my Bali Lilacs. Besides, I see people's 9T or very new/recessive traits not sell all the time anyway so it is really just a matter of finding the right buyer no matter what the combination of traits you have going!
