UPDATED 10/3: Brain Tumor Facts and 3 Raffles @ 3 Sims!: The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation Benefit Event - LyricaBlues Resident - 09-07-2015 07:36 AM Hosted by The Better MouseTrap & The ScratchN Post Why Is This Such An Important Event?
FACT: "NCI spends 96% of its budget on adult cancers and only 4% of its budget on children’s cancers. In dollar terms, NCI’s funding for pediatric clinical trials is $26.4 million while funding for AIDS research is $254 million, and breast cancer is $584 million. Pharmaceutical companies don’t commit resources to childhood cancer research because the adult cancer drug business is viewed as more profitable and less risky to them" FACT: "13,500 children 19 and under diagnosed each year in the US. 36 children diagnosed each day. 175,058 children are diagnosed each year worldwide (age 0-14)" FACT: "In 20 years the FDA has initially approved only two drugs for any childhood cancer – 1/2 of all chemotherapies used for children’s cancers are over 25 years old Research and development for new drugs from pharmaceutical companies comprises 60% of funding for adult cancer drugs and close to zero for childhood cancers." The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation Benefit Event! - Aubreygrace Starlight - 09-07-2015 07:54 AM Awesome event! If rl work doesn't have me on I'll come by what a great cause! RE: It's Almost Here! The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation Benefit Event! - LyricaBlues Resident - 09-07-2015 08:06 AM Yes it is an awesome cause, and it's a personal one to me. Thats why I have been fundraising for kids with brain tumors over 10 yrs! OMG when I was breeding/training/showing dogs, every October my group "The HumaneStream Educational Project" did dog washes, grooming events, training weekends...we were up to our butts in doggie people. When I started in kittycats I thought of carrying on that tradition online and seeing how amazing you guys are, I can't think of a better way to do it! RE: It's Almost Here! The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation Benefit Event! - Aubreygrace Starlight - 09-07-2015 09:48 AM Well I was able to take the day off from work lol! So count me in, it's a great thing you are doing!! So count me in, it's a great thing you are doing!! Thanks, it's personal to me and its funny but rather than think of the negative part of this whole experience for us, my son and I try to make lemonaid out of those sour lemons...without this maybe I would be as clueless as many are about these issues. Pediatric Brain Tumors are an "orphan disease", meaning that its not a cause celebre like other cancers. When was the last time you saw Anything at all about brain tumors except years ago when an athlete had an experience. And that was just a flash in the pan we had hoped would have a longer effect towards awareness. Well, we just keep on keepin on and just one person has no audible voice, but as we pick up more voices we know its inevitable: One day we will be a loud Roar RE: It's Almost Here! Thank you Amber! Of course all who want to participate or support this event in any way are welcomed to! There are some things that stand apart from the mundane and relatively small things, when you think about it. Brain tumors are one of those things because really, when was the last time you saw any events or tv commercials or magazine ads for this disorder and yet it is the second leading cancer killer of children 15 yrs and under. It's listed right after Leukemia, yet Unless you or a loved one is devastated by this, you would not have a reason to think about it. This makes living with that occurrence even lonelier and scarier. You feel like you are in your own private hell screaming but no one can hear you. Any donations of cats/kittens can be sent to me but should be named "PBTF (your name) so that proper acknowlegment can be given for your generosity. Thank you! ?
