Longer Forum Signatures - Deer Thistle - 10-23-2014 10:36 PM To keep this short and simple: I think forum signatures should have a longer character limit, like waaaaay longer. It's really fun to add things meaningful to that particular forum's focus in your signature. For example, on this massive forum for ball-jointed dolls that I belong to, we all list our favorite dolls collected in our signature or provide links to our wanted threads, Flickr accounts, etc. When a member talks about X doll by his or her name, we know from their signature what doll they're is talking about or can find a commonality based off of their preferences versus our own. That forum's signature character limit I believe is 1,000 characters including BB markup, this one is a small 255 characters including BB markup. If this upgrade was implemented, I'd even consider making the limit longer than 1,000 characters to account for how long URLs and SLURLs can be as I'm sure they'd become a major component of signatures, many people have several shops and threads. But this is totally up to KittyCatS of course, and I'm sure they'll find a good signature character number if they alter it. I think something like this would be awesome for showing off our favorite cattery members or our current breeding projects. Or it could be utilized to post alternate shop locations, easily link to our wanted or selling threads, or add amusing cat-related quotes without having it cut off so early on like it does now. I'm sure there's plenty more that signatures could be utilized for if the character limit was drastically extended. We already have signatures, I just think they should be longer. More personalization is a plus. \o/ Please consider! RE: Longer Forum Signatures - Tad Carlucci - 10-23-2014 10:51 PM You mean like this? Code: _ _______ _________ _ _______ _______ _______ _______ __________________ RE: Longer Forum Signatures - Deer Thistle - 10-23-2014 11:14 PM Aw maaaaannn, now I've been found out! LOL You foiled my planz of having l337 ASCII graffiti in my signature! And here I thought that I almost found a way to acquire it! How else was I going to get my invasive Grumpy Cat ASCII to meet the character limit?! Code: @@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@ @@@ @@@ @@@ @@@@@@ @@@@@@ @@@ @@@ @@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@ This makes me reminisce on the good days of mass ASCII-spamming in AOL 3.0 chatrooms.. It also does bring up a good point I should have addressed earlier. Like any forum, there should be rules on what can and can't be there, if we don't already have a list of signature rules. This should be common sense but shrug, you never know. And signatures breaking said rules would need to be removed. I don't think this would be something that moderators/admin would need to worry much about; everyone currently has the ability to add URLs in poor taste and same with images in their signatures and I personally haven't seen it done yet. RE: Longer Forum Signatures - Kayleigh McMillan - 10-24-2014 07:28 AM ROFL!!! You guys :-)) It would be convenient to have a somewhat larger space in our signature! This has my vote :-) For now I use the tiny url to make it all fit but I'd love to link to more things! Such as Wiki Flickr or in my case Ipernity and if I had a blog to the blogsite. Gives us a good sense of what people do on other platforms with the kitties. Love this idea RE: Longer Forum Signatures - Julia Merosi - 10-24-2014 09:32 AM i would like to see longer forum signatures swell. it gets difficult if you want to include links (more than one) in your signature. its not really working in cooperation with the format you want. it keeps telling you "too long" even if it comes out as a real short signature so yeah more code allowed would be awesome! |
