RE: SPAM - dakillakm Resident - 06-11-2013 09:35 AM

I have pretty much stopped spamming for my own store because I don't see any results. When I had my first little shop and I would spam for it I would usually get one or two people tp-ing in to check out what was there and maybe have a brief chat even if they weren't buying anything. Now, if I spam I rarely ever see someone tp in after the spam is sent. I agree with a lot of the posters above regarding alternate forms of advertising like Flickr and the forums. I think a cute kitty face is so much more tempting/seductive than just a notice with a jumble of words and traits etc.

An online system like Tatiana mentioned would be awesome and I think someone has brought it up before. I suffer with bad DSL a lot of the time and that can make browsing even the low lag sims a pain sometimes. If we had a way of checking what's for sale in a coherent manner BEFORE tp-ing somewhere that would just be epic!

I've been following this post for a bit now and it's been an interesting read. Just my 2 cents on the matter: The SL Marketplace would eliminate the need to spam groups I think. It takes thinking into another direction.

RE: SPAM - Kendrah Vantelli - 06-11-2013 10:20 AM

Spam, It does get frustrating for me to see the same sim owner with their alts spamming 3-4+ times in the same groups with different alts within that 1 hour.
Even to go as far as to name their spamming bots the names of my sims to get traffic and confuse people I'm guessing.
I have confronted her, she doesn't seem to care. I've even removed her several times from my groups, when the spam comes across it's something like
" the rarest cat out for the cheapest amount " when you teleport there it's all at the same sim and no cat like that exist for sale.

On the other hand... When new people see this spam they think that these cats are only worth what it was spammed for. Maybe the cat was 120 days old, maybe it wasn't even there........ Seems to be no end to it. But I'm gonna have to just mute this person and her alts.

I deeply appreciate all this feedback, thank you for taking the time to reply everyone =o)

I really agree that the spam has become pointless. I do still enjoy seeing some notices about auctions and bidboards, and Kendrah, that's awful what's been happening to you..it's shamefull to use someone else's market name to mislead people and I wasn't even aware that was happening.

The bots I ejected from my group three days ago are still somehow endlessly spamming I Can Haz Kitteh? so it looks like I will need to contact LL Support for help.

I'm working on something in-world that may be another option to get to know what is out there and who is breeding what. I'll make a new post when I have things in order and see if there's enough interest to do it.

In the meantime, I don't blame anyone in my group for shutting everything off lol. I have not as I need to keep track of what's going on and I must say...it's DRIVING ME NUTS!!! For those that would like to say in my group, I'll try to remedy things ASAP, but there's no hard feelings at all if you drop it.

HuGz,
Noc

Maybe there is no other way than an invite only group or request for an invite group to be able to moderate it properly for the owner.
It is annoying we can't woop people from an open enrollment group permanently as SL avoids such Undecided
And I have seen what you are talking about as well, Kendrah.
It is hard to fully understand people sometimes no matter how hard we try.

Now I think of it it is possible to have an open enrollment group with in default no rights to chat and post notices.
Those right can be managed via request and in an other role within the group.
It is too stupid for words this is needed but that way there can be a naughty corner Sad

RE: SPAM - Saga Felix - 06-11-2013 01:39 PM

I do not mind (sensible) spam in advertising-groups, it's what they're there for after all.
I just turn off notices, but leave one of the biggest cat-advert-groupchats open if I want to see what it going on.

-But spam in my IM is a 100% sure way to keep me AWAY from a shop / auction - I absolutely hate and detest it.

What I don't understand is that people keep making more advertising-groups. Why so many? Do we REALLY need more?
A couple of kitty-groups have 500+ members - and I have noticed that whatever is advertised in the other chats, is ALSO advertised in those... So why be a member of 10+ groups? Wink

Noc - they don't actually somehow leave the group *chat* until they log off, so they can keep spamming unless you actually use the group *chat* moderator tools to mute their chat. You can also try temporarily disabling chat for the group as a whole, then re-enabling it. That should boot them from the active chat as well.

RE: SPAM - Nocshadue Balbozar - 06-11-2013 04:25 PM

That's a good point Saga, my group has been around about a year, maybe a bit more I think..but has never been real big. It started as more of a chat group where people posted cats, asked pricing advice and such then quickly went to spam. At first it was just now and then and wasn't bad..I ran into trouble when I made it open enrollment though..it just got relegated to a spam group but I figured eh..why not? And it was ok fora while. It just seems like the past 6 months..the spam is exploding and I really, really don't want to annoy people or more percicely, let others annoy people via a group I made.

Most Auctioneers and people that spam for bid boards have a set schedule and it's reasonable and they stick to it. So I really don't mind that, I like knowing what's on the bid boards or what's up for auction..(mostly). But something is out of whack when a small minority is putting out a huge percentage of the spam.

And you are so right that there is no need for hundreds of spam groups. It just adds to the mayhem. I got soooo tired of like trying to work witth a cat's menu and having to click, click, click, through notice after notice mostly the same notice too.

I completely feel the same about spam in my IM too! And also random TP requests. I have a very few select people that can shoot me a TP and they know who they are. Being on my friends list is not an entitlement to ninja TP me to your auction, shop or bid board cat. I have actually been kinda hurt by this..people friending me, then the only time they ever speak to me is to try to sell me a cat. Its like they figured out no one is reading the damn spam so they're gonna use friend list as a spamming resource. Now, I got some people on my list I don't talk to often..and some are kitty sellers I admire and would like to keep up with..but I don't spam them for &*^% sake. And I say "hi, how are you" once in a while lol =op

So, yeah, maybe it's time to do some cleaning while it's still Spring lol. I want to thank the friends that stuck with my group..you're welcome to stay in it if you want..but the spam is going. And I won't be hurt if people leave it. If it's really not serving us..let's let it go.

THANK YOU!!!!!

Omg I was going nuts trying to figure this out..thank you sooo much!

RE: SPAM - Piper Rowley - 06-11-2013 10:29 PM

I try to spam 2 times a day if I even remember to. I have several groups, probably 6 that I spam in and in 2 of them, I can only spam in a certain group where the shop is on. The others I try now....to combine the 2 "group" only spam and the other 4 groups in one notice/chat. That way I'm not clogging up someone's screen. All my notices are off though...some chat too so I don't know how much it is for shop/kitty/auction spam. I know before I turned them off it was neverending sometimes cause some people do post every hour/2 hours....It's just too much people! I think every 8-12 hours is just fine. With so many people across the globe, there will still be a lot of spam. Maybe not *as* much, but enough that people are still going to see your shop/kitty. Auction spam I don't mind on an daily basis. Maybe spam 24 hours, 12 hours, 6 hours, 4 hours, 2 hours and 1 hour and at start the day of and then a once day day 2-3 days before. That's just what I'd do.

RE: SPAM - Laufiair Hexicola - 06-11-2013 11:11 PM

That's what the group coven is for... telling members what and when they can and can not spam and how often, although I know of alot of groups that don't enforce their rules so it gets out of control.
